The first thing discussed at the meeting was the IB promotional video that will be shown to middle schools, freshmen, and sophomores to hopefully inspire them to join IB. Emily is currently conducting interviews with IB students and teachers. She shared the details, such as what the questions are going to be and where interviews may be conducted, with everyone at the meeting. The promotional video has to be done by February 2, 2022.
Next, a promotional flier for IB, for the same purpose as the video, was also discussed. Eliana volunteered to make the flier. After that, the IB Showcase night was discussed again. Mr. El has sent out a google form regarding how many meals to order for a student and what they want to order. If he doesn't hear from a student, he will resort to ordering 1 meal (specifically a cheeseburger) for that student. If you haven't filled it out yet, check your email and do so. We also discussed possible things we could do during the showcase beyond the TOK exhibition. Some ideas were that somebody could give a speech or someone, who is musician, could maybe play some music. Additionally, the idea of an acitivity for the adults specifically was brought up. Some ideas were maybe a bingo game or a raffle. If anyone has an ideas or wants to perform, contact Mr. El, Emily, or anyone in IB really (the word will get around). Finally, juniors met with Mr. May about CAS. The next IB meeting will be on February 9, 2022. Shout out Ellie for taking notes during the meeting!

Once again, the first objective of the meeting involved the Food and Decoration committees. So far the food committee hasn't found any food yet, but they said they would try to by this Friday or at least by the time of the next IB Club meeting (December 8, 2021, 3-4pm Room A288). The Decoration Committee proposed the theme of "Stars and Success" for Family Night and everyone agreed that they liked that idea. From there, the Decoration Committee will be working on getting estimates of how much the supplies for decoration will cost.
Next, the Family Night continued to be discussed. Some ideas of what could specifically presented was discussed, such as the other CAS project: the IB mural. A paper was also passed around where people could record how many of their family members they expect to come so the Food committee could have an idea of how much food they would have to order. We also discussed which teachers we would like to invite to Family Night, some of the names brought up were Mrs. Padron, Mr. Hinostroza, Mr. May, and Madame Chapman. Additionally, the IB Senior Awards night was brought up again. We don't know any specifics but according to Mr. El it has been approved by the principal. Then Mr. May gave a presentation "How to Managebac" to the juniors and told them how to record CAS and that he expects them to log at least one thing during break next week and told them that if they think of any questions to feel free to email them to him. We also got an update on the IB shirts! They have been ordered and according to Mr. Valenzuela they will arrive in about two weeks. Finally, the November IB newsletter has to be updated with an IB teacher and student of the month. So a Google form regarding that will be sent out soon, so make sure to fill that out! What we will discuss/do the next IB Club meeting were also discussed. Next meeting we plan on discussing the Food and Decoration committee stuff again, the Senior Awards night, the mural CAS project, and on starting IB tutoring. Shoutout Karolina for the notes! The first objective of the meeting was to figure out who is on the committees for the IB Parent and Student night on March 7, 2022. People volunteered to join in one of two committees, either the food or decoration committee. The food committee needs to choose a restaurant that can provide pre-packaged meal and come up with an estimate of the price. The decoration committee needs to figure out how they want to decorate and what supplies they'll need.
The idea of an "IB Awards Night" was also brought up. There's been no set date, but we do know that we do plan on having one. This will be discussed during the next meeting. Next, CAS meetings with Mr. May were discussed. IB juniors have to meet with him and discuss how to do CAS and IB seniors have to meet with him about their progress in CAS. Both types of students have been sent a spreadsheet where they can sign up for a certain time and date for this meeting. Finally, the IB shirts were once again discussed. The order for the shirts was not able to be placed because we had insufficient funds. As a result, a vote of whether or not to use the money won from the boat race to pay for the shirts arose. There was an unanimous vote that we should use the money for the shirts and ASB was made aware of this decision. Shoutout Karolina for taking notes during the meeting! This time this meeting started off with a listening party! We listened to a song that was made as a final project last year for IB Lit HL Yr1 for the book ¨Things Fall Apart.¨ It was a parody to the ¨Fresh Prince of Bel Air¨ theme song about how Okonkwo´s toxic sense of masculinity and gender roles in their village´s society. The person who made the song did amazing, but they wish to remain anonymous!
After that we started discussing what we wanted to do for our boat for the boat race. We already had contacted ASB about joining and had bought all the supplies we would need. We first worked on what the shape of the boat would be. At first we had two main ideas: either a canoe shape or just a square. But Mr. May brought up some important factors we should consider such as balance, how sturdy it is, how it goes through the water, etc. We decided that neither idea was good as making the canoe would require us bending and weakening the cardboard and the square wouldn´t flow too good. After some discussion, we decided on a compound shape, that is pretty much a square with a triangle on top. We also decided on how we would do the paddle. Our first idea was to just tape the cardboard to the hands on the person in the boat, but after consulting the rules of the race we discovered that it was not possible. It was a bit of a dilemma, but after some discussion we decided that we would make paddles by taping together a bunch of thin strips of cardboard to make a solid stick of cardboard. Then we would tape the actual paddles that go in the water to that stick. As we worked, different people were working in different groups. For example, some people were working on the boat itself, some on the paddles, and even some on decorations meant for the boat. The meeting went overtime until 4:30 p.m. because there was lots of work to be done (and there still is!). The next date for the next club meeting hasn´t been decided yet nor the specific days we plan on continuing working the boat, so look out for notifications on Remind with information about those times and dates! The meeting started with some casual conversation with Mr. May. For starters, he told us that he will be doing meetings with both junior and senior DP students for CAS. Then, he talked to some of the DP students about their EEs and gave them some feedback and advice. Then, the meeting formally began. This meeting was lead by Katelynn and Aaron as Lilly and Emily were busy with other things. We first discussed the boat race, who would lead it, and how we would go about getting involved. It was decided that Katelynn and Aaron would lead the boat race and that we would email ASB about it. Next, we discussed the t-shirts again. The t-shirts are ready to go and all that´s left to do is collect people´s sizes for their shirts and to order the shirts. So look out for a google form in your email asking about your t-shirt size! After that we discussed the newsletter. We decided it would be a monthly thing and that the first one would be published on the first of October. We began to look at the templates we may use and brainstorm ideas.
Finally, we discussed making the posters. Priscila told us that we would have to design our poster, send it to ASB, get it approved and stamped, and then we will be able to distribute them. Then we decided the next IB Club meeting would be October 6, 2021 at 3pm-4pm in room A288. The first objective of the meeting was to review the the IB shirt designs made by Priscilla. Everyone in attendance unanimously agreed that we liked the overall design of the shirt, but there will be small tweaks to the design. The original design had both a mustang and IB symbol on the front and it was decided that it would be better to move one of them to the back (the mustang) and to add back lighting to the IB logo. It was also decided that the names of teachers would not be included on the back and that only the students in IB's names would be. It was also decided that there would be two versions of the shirts: ones with names and ones without names.
Then this website was shown to the students and talked about. We talked about how there's going to be things like resources, important deadlines, and IB related news on here. We also asked if anyone has an IB related pictures we can put on here (if you do email them at [email protected], please and thank you!). Next, we went over the IB mentorship program, which is where IB DP seniors are assigned IB DP juniors to help them out with anything IB related. IB DP juniors who attended exchanged contact information with their IB DP seniors (for those who didn't attend, Mr. El should have told you who your mentor is or it's somewhere in your emails). After that, Mr. May spoke about CAS. He gave brief description of CAS and told IB DP juniors to start thinking about activities they may want to do for CAS. He also told all DP students that he would soon be meeting with them one on one about CAS (for juniors it will be their first CAS interview, for seniors their second CAS interview). Finally, students were reminded to join IB Club's Remind (@ibclubwvhs). Then we talked about how we wanted to make posters to advertise the club and if anyone had some ideas, to share them with us. We decided that we would make them at the next meeting and when the next meeting would be (September 22, 2021, 3pm to 4pm, A288). Shout out Karolina for taking notes during the meeting! |
